JAlbum is great for making online portfolios and galleries

Professional photographers often call me and ask if I know of any good programs for making online photo albums or portfolios for their website.

One of my favorites is JAlbum [1] . It is a free program that is used for making quick and easy online photo albums that look professional.

JAlbum is great for any photographer who already has their own website. It is a step up from Flickr or other web photo hosting services. It does require that the user understands ftp and a little about what Java and Flash do, but you do not need to actually understand Java or Flash.

JAblum does not allow you to insert music into your gallery, but that is not a bad thing since music will slow sites down.

I do a little wedding photography from time to time and I just built a quick little album with JAlbum [2] . Overall I am very happy with the results. Since the program is open source and based on common Java and Flash platforms, there are dozens of themes and skins available for an online photo gallery.
