Re-registering Avast Antivirus

Came across this one twice today, and we had a question about it last week on email as well. Avast, an antivirus program from the Awil Software company, comes in a free version for home users. We like this program because of its small footprint, constant updating, and effectiveness. However, once installed it must be registered with the company to continue updates and then re-registered every 12 months.

Here is the process to get it re-registered:

 

  1. Visit the Avast website
  2. Hover your mouse on the 'Purchase' menu
  3. Click the "Free Avast Home Registration' option
  4. Fill out the form on the registration page and click Register
  5. Wait about 5-10 minutes then check your email for the registration number to arrive by email
  6. Open the email and highlight the registration number with your mouse
  7. Click Edit ---> Copy from the menus (or Ctrl + C on your keyboard)
  8. RIGHT Click on the Avast icon (looks like a blue ball with a lower case 'a' by your clock)
  9. Click About Avast
  10. Click the "License Key" button
  11. RIGHT click in the box where you need to enter the key
  12. Click Paste from the menu
  13. Click OK twice and you are finished.
