Automatically Starting Favorite Programs

Submitted by pcsnpixels on December 6, 2005 - 10:04am.
  • Windows Tips

In the past, we have discussed how to stop certain programs from automatically starting in Windows.  Listener, James G. points out that he would like certain programs to start automatically in Windows.

For example, you may want your computer to automatically open and check for email in the morning when you turn on your computer.  Or, maybe you have a daily routine with your Quicken that you complete first thing and you would like the program to be up an running immediately.  Here's how:

Windows 98, Me, 2000 or XP

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Programs (or All Programs)
  3. RIGHT Click and drag the program that you want to start automatically to the Startup folder
  4. Release the button and click on the "Copy Here" option
  5. Repeat process for other programs you want to load automatically

Windows 95

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on Taskbar
  4. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab at the top of the screen
  5. Click on Advanced
  6. Find the program icon that you want to automatically start
  7. RIGHT Click on it
  8. Click on Copy from the menu
  9. RIGHT Click on the Startup folder
  10. Click on Paste
  11. Repeat for any other programs that you want to automatically load

That's it, when you reboot your computer the program(s) you placed into the Startup folder will automatically start.

If this helped, consider buying me a beer or an Americano!
