AVG 8.0

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 31, 2008 - 2:37pm.

I used it had endless troubles, feels like a beta program, changed to Avira (google 'Avira nag screen'to rid the advert on updates)

Also use SpywareBlaster, Superantispyware and Comodo firewall pro (free) system now boots faster, scans faster and the memory resource use is far less than the AVG bloat.

I had been using AVG for the past six years with no problems until 8.0, a real shame!

There is an entry at the AVG

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 29, 2008 - 12:22am.

There is an entry at the AVG Free site which addresses the update problem in AVG 8 where it keeps requiring a restart. It requires the user to navigate to the AVG folder in Program Files >AVG 8 .Then, if you have two files called the following

updatecomps
updatecomps.prepare

you delete the first one and rename the second, removing the .prepare part of the name.

This worked for me and hope it helps.

AVG Response

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 28, 2008 - 2:49pm.

I am having the same issue updating AVG. There is a significant update that will not download. I think there must be a server problem. I'm sure it will resolve with time.

AVG

Ok, anyone having an issue with Avg free anti-virus? It did not update during the nite as it normally does. I've been trying all morning, and it continues to hang up getting to the site.

Inkjet Printers

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 28, 2008 - 10:45am.

How about polling people to find out what their favorite printers are in terms of quality & total cost? I'm tired of paying a lot of money on tiny hp ink-jet cartridges that hold minimal amounts of ink. Who makes a decent printer that doesn't require frequent ink replenishment?

Olympics

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 27, 2008 - 6:15am.

After the third night of game after game after game of sand volleyball--no equestrian, archery, shotput, bicycling, swordsmanship, etc.--we turned to other, more interesting things. Guess we are just not into bikinis and long legs...Sue

Olympic Volleyball

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 28, 2008 - 10:29am.

Glad someone else thought the volleyball coverage was excessive. I also found the volleyball games, both indoor court and outdoor sand, to be incredibly boring. Finally, as a guy, I thought the women in sand volleyball would look much better in shorts & T-shirts.
