  • Artist: Castellini on Computers
  • Title: Big format announcement
  • Length: 8:51 minutes (4.05 MB)
  • Format: MP3 Stereo 32kHz 64Kbps (CBR)

We will be leaving terrestrial radio and moving our show to a pure Internet show for now. We don't have many details yet regarding how long the show will continue in its current format, but keep visiting the site daily for new information.

If this helped, consider buying me a beer or an Americano!

Commercial overload

Submitted by Smart Computer User on September 2, 2007 - 3:14pm.

Rick and Adam: I heard your show for 6 or 7 years and got great advice. I even called in a few times. But I got so tired of the longer and longer commercial breaks and the station cutting your show for dumb infomercials that I almost stopped listening. The website is wonderful and I look forward to the internet show. Best of luck.

I Prefer Your Website Anyway

Submitted by Smart Computer User on June 29, 2007 - 6:38am.

I had listened to your radio show for a couple of years before visiting your website. Now your website is my home page for my browser. I still listen to the radio show once in a while, but not that much.

Dial-up listeners welcome

Submitted by Adam on June 28, 2007 - 5:44pm.

Nothing has been finalized yet and we expect to try a lot of new things over the next year, but initially the audio content will be recorded and download-able. While the "feed" may be slow for dial-up users, it will be available at any time.

Slightly over one quarter of all Internet users are on dial-up. While we hate to do it, we have found that any energy spent keeping our site compatible with dial-up is energy taken from creating a better web experience for everyone else. You have likely noticed that dial-up Internet is getting slower as the web gets better.

I recommend canceling TV cable and long distance service and switching to broadband. Even satellite is affordable now at $50/month and the costs only go down from there as you consider other services such as wireless, DSL and cable.

Genesis & You

Submitted by Smart Computer User on June 26, 2007 - 1:02pm.

I cannot believe that Genesis is going to let you guys go! After all, they are making money hand over fist with all of those national commercials they air during your program. I also can't believe you have never been paid for doing the radio show!! I figured you and Adam were collecting about $100 an hour each from Genesis. What was your incentive to stay so long helping them make money?

I am deeply saddened that you will be off the air. You have an excellent show that has helped me countless times over the years. You guys are so down to earth and on the average computer users level that listening to you is almost as easy as listening to Sinatra!

We are fools with dreams

Submitted by Adam on June 27, 2007 - 7:09pm.

What was our incentive for helping them make money for so long? That's easy, we were hopeful that it would pay off. We made attempt after attempt to find advertisers, additional stations and new ways to market the show and make a little bit of money.

Every attempt we made to grow the show came down to needing numbers/statistics/demographics from various stations - this was information that only the network could provide. We aren't quite sure why, but no one would ever provide those numbers and information.

It all comes down to a catch 22. You can't get much exposure unless you are willing to pay but you can't afford to pay until you have more exposure.

We will continue to be the best computer talk show in the world, we are just going to do it without terrestrial radio waves. Everyone in the radio industry is upset about the Internet's impact, but using the Internet we will be able to reach more people, have more creative control and we can give our listeners and readers the kind of show we have always wanted to do, the kind of show they deserve.

Why Why Why............................

Submitted by Smart Computer User on June 26, 2007 - 4:31am.

Here we go, my saturday just went to crap. No more saturday computer talk, house work, beer drinking!!! I live in glade park and we dont have high- speed internet and i bet others around the area are like me. (i'll try to pick you guys up with a 26.4kb connection)

Here's why

Submitted by Adam on June 27, 2007 - 6:38pm.

First, make sure that DSL isn't available in your area. Much of Glade Park is now covered by Qwest or KeyOn wireless.

Second, if you can't tune in, use your Saturday to surf HelpMeRick.com. There is tons of stuff on the site that loads plenty fast on a dial-up line.

Third, we must apologize if we have ever lead you to believe that we have any say on what goes on at KNZZ. We certainly did not ask them to preempt the first half our of our show for a real estate infomercial or in past years cut off the last hour of our show for impotence/bowel problem treatment products. If we ask them to start carrying Dave Ramsey again, they will likely add two more hours of Michael Savage.

BIG !!

Submitted by Smart Computer User on June 24, 2007 - 1:08pm.

Sounds good to me. That Gennises ( SP ) ! radio system is sick as hell. I was surprised you went with them. On the other hand KNZZ is not much better !!

I moved here from Pennsylvania about 11 years ago. I scanned the various radio stations for music I understood ! I am 76 years old. Most stations had rock and roll or county or religeous !!! WOW !!!

I found Rush Limbaugh, the G Man and some better music on KNZZ.

I first met you Rick on the ISP Ruralnet as a tech support person. And have enjoyed your help and radio since.

I guess that KNZZ is dumping you - - -- like they did the G Man and Neal Boortz some time back. At least they got Neal Boortz back on.

On the other hand they finally dumped DR Laura---but got her back later!! What a sick station. Many times they lost power and programs of course. SICK !!

The Gennises radio had almost more time for commercials for " snake oil" and other crappy crap at high prices than your program !!!!

I just hope you guys can spend more time than a half hour or two with your help.

Best wishes
George

We're not being dumped

Submitted by Adam on June 24, 2007 - 2:18pm.

Before any rumors get started, neither Genesis or KNZZ are dumping us. Rick and I have just decided that there are too many good reasons for ending the radio show and many more good reasons to use our website as our means of doing what we do.

Rick and I aren't going anywhere. We will continue the show and the website, we just won't be doing it all in connection with a regular radio show.

While we are still working on the details, here are a few projects that we are working on:

Podcasting
More tutorial videos
Video Q&A
More product reviews
Real-time chat and Q&A sessions
Remote help via the Internet
Creating a community

We hope that geeks will refer their non-geek friends and family to HelpMeRick.com. HelpMeRick.com is the manual that your computer never came with.
