Basic Video Editing

Video editing doesn't take a monster computer or a fancy camera.

Tools Required:

Camera - MiniDV camera works best because it is the most reliable and easiest to use.

Capturing the video from the camera:

If you have an older video camera VHS or 8mm, you will need a video capture card or device such as the Dazzle.

All you need if you have a digital video camera (MiniDV, DVD or HDD) is a firewire port on your computer and a firewire cord.

For best results you should have at least a 2Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM. The more hard drive space, the better.

You will also need a good piece of software such as Adobe Premier Elements or Ulead Video Studio.

Just a side note

I was under the impression that most if not all Hard Disk Drive (HDD) cameras use a USB cord and not a firewire. This is because of the format in which they transfer. Is this true?

True for HDD

That is correct. Most hard drive cameras do use USB because they transfer files not video. Firewire is the preferred format for transferring real-time video because it supplies power, audio and video very quickly but hard drive cameras are more like large external hard drives and the video transfer is much faster than real-time using any connection.
