My wife and I check our email even more frequently than an hour. We use it mostly for business and have found that we normally receive a response quicker than we would with leaving a phone message! Year to date, we have sent 612 emails. Of those, less than a handful were "forwards" of emails sent to us or cutsie type emails.
snail pace
We only check it a couple of times a week because all
we have available to us is snail pace dialup by even less usefull ATT/SBC YAHOO.
Checking email
While checking email 3-5 times/day, I check snail mail at that rate per week.
