"The Russian Post accounts migration to the free software for cutting losses. In February Aleksey Kazmin, the new director general of the Russian Post, announced the net losses of the federal state unitary enterprise accounted for 4.6 bn rubles ($195.088 m) for the previous year, which was a 60% increase as compared to a year earlier.

If the experiment launched is a success, more than 42 thousand post offices with more than 125 thousand computers will migrate to the new Linux-based software. Aleksey Kuzmin told CNews the first Linux installations were likely to be held on the work stations of public internet access point."

"Brazil's Ministry of Education ("MEC") is installing Linux in labs used by 52 million schoolchildren, reports KDE developer Mauricio Piacentini. Piacentini's blog post describes MEC's "Linux Educacional 2.0" as "a very clean Debian-based distribution, with KDE 3.5, KDE-Edu, KDE-Games, and some tools developed by the project." ...

Thus, most labs have 15 available workstations. For labs in rural locations with limited electricity, a single server can support up to seven KVMs. There's also a set-up with a large TV monitor for special needs children. Some 29,000 labs will be completed this year, with 53,000 labs set up by the end of next year."
