Andy's Update

Submitted by AndyC on January 8, 2008 - 3:21am.
  • CES 2008

Hey there, this is Andy again with a recap of some things we've seen since my last post. Every few years, something new comes along at CES that revolutionizes the electronics industry as a whole. I think we found one such thing here at CES 2008. Sony officially introduced their Organic Light Emitting Diode televisions, which offer exceptional picture quality with contrast that is better than anything I have ever seen. Everyone thought Samsung's LCD TV with 500,000:1 contrast was cool, and it was, but wait 'till you see the Sony OLED TV with 1,000,000:1 contrast. WOW! What's really cool is that it's only about an eighth of an inch thick. For now, they are only selling an 11 inch model, but Sony also had a prototype 26 inch model on demo.
Sony really strutted their stuff with the Rolly Mp3 player. It is an Mp3 player that looks like a small football. The ends of it open and close, and contain small speakers. Once it's open and running, it rolls around and spins and dances. I don't really know what the purpose of this gismo is, but I'm sure it will revolutionize electronics like the mini disc player once did (or didn't.)
Now, a few words on the ASUS Eee Pc: So far, these small knee-top computers have proven very useful. We really enjoy sitting down next to people using 17” laptops, and whipping out these little beasts. The reactions of those around us have been very positive, and many people with these large laptops have tried to hide their envy of our super-lightweight machines. I have been carrying my ASUS Eee in my bag over my shoulder, and haven't noticed the weight at all. The entire computer weighs less than my flash and one lens for my camera. All in all, I am very pleased with the Eee, and expect to be pleased as we use them more and more.
